Encouraging better dietary habits

Promote healthier choices

Our aim is to support health through food across all life stages, both by creating healthy products and helping consumers make informed choices. We make sure our labelling is easy to understand and act responsibly when it comes to the marketing of our products, including baby formula. We also protect and promote breastfeeding.

Transparent labelling and interpretative information

We want to make it as simple as possible for consumers to choose the right foods to support their health. That's why we’re committed to making our labelling clear, informative, and fully transparent.

Common nutrition labels are legally mandatory and provide nutrient declarations for prepackaged foods. Moving forwards, we’re also committed to applying interpretative labelling to our eligible portfolio to guide consumers in making informed food choices.

Interpretative labelling provides a consumer-friendly explanation of the basic nutrition label. It is often based on government or scientifically endorsed nutrient profiling systems, like the Health Star Rating (HSR), and is designed to be simple and easy for all consumers to understand.

How we promote better choices and nutrition

Responsible marketing for children

As a founding member of the EU Pledge for responsible marketing to children, Danone adheres to strict principles for advertising. These include promoting only products that meet specific nutrition criteria to children and encouraging healthy hydration habits.

In 2024, we renewed our Policy on Marketing to Children by selecting  the Health Star Rating (HSR) as the nutrient profile model to identify which products can be advertised to children. The audience threshold used to restrict marketing to children has been tightened and our policy now includes restrictions applying to children below the age of 16.

Promoting breastfeeding

At Danone, we believe breastmilk is the best nutrition for babies. We support the WHO’s recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.

We promote breastfeeding through education and provide parents with choices that cater to their needs. We develop our infant formula portfolio for cases in which breastfeeding is not an option for mothers or their children.
