Our mission

In 1972, Danone’s former CEO Antoine Riboud delivered a landmark speech in Marseille, introducing the company’s Dual Project. Riboud believed that businesses could be both profitable and a force for positive change, and this belief became a guiding principle for the company as it expanded globally.

The essence of the Dual Project inspires our corporate mission (raison d'être): to bring health through food to as many people as possible.

A company’s responsibility doesn’t stop at the factory gate or the office door. The jobs we create, the economic and social conditions in which people live and work, the environment we affect—all these things matter as much as profit and loss.

Our mission

For over a hundred years, Danone has been leading the way in developing healthy products for all stages of life. As far back as 1919, the founder of Danone, Isaac Carrasso, was making yogurt to help children with intestinal infections, using cultures from the Pasteur Institute. In the 1890s, Nutricia was using cutting-edge science to make discoveries that changed the lives of countless people across the world.

It is this commitment to health that underlies our mission: “Bringing health through food to as many people as possible.”

Across our entire portfolio, we offer healthy and tasty products tailored to the nutritional needs and eating habits of our consumers, at every stage of life.

Delivering on our mission in a way that protects the planet

We believe that a healthy body needs healthy food, and healthy food needs a healthy planet, including sustainable ecosystems and resilient social structures. This is why embedding sustainable practices into our operations and using innovative, low-carbon ingredients in our product range is so important to us.

The Danone Impact Journey, our sustainability roadmap, is a clear, simple, and impactful plan, owned by all our Danoners – and based on three inter-connected pillars: Health, Nature, and People & Communities. It ensures that we have the greatest possible impact when it comes to sustainability and that we operate as a socially responsible business.

How our people shape our mission

We’re a people-centric company. Danoners are our most important and precious asset.

Our successful performance is achieved “avec et par” (with and by) our nearly 90,000 Danoners worldwide. Our people are empowered to make a difference by leveraging their unique strengths and expertise for the benefit of the company. No matter their role, seniority, or location, they play an active role in supporting the implementation of our Renew Danone strategy – now in its second phase, or next chapter – and shaping the future of Danone.
