Supporting health through scientific expertise

Investing in nutrition, hydration, and research

Research, science and innovation are central to everything we do at Danone. And it’s been this way since the company’s beginnings, when founder Daniel Carasso created the first Danone yogurt to help children with digestive difficulties. Today, we focus research and innovation on specific areas such as gut health, children’s growth, immunity and allergy, recovery, energy, and physical performance, helping us develop nutritious solutions that best serve the needs of our consumers.

State of the art research facilities

Our global network of scientists and nutrition experts collaborates across research institutes worldwide. We have two Global Research and Innovation Centers in Paris-Saclay and Utrecht, and six specialized hubs each with specific focus areas: Evian (France) for water and packaging, Singapore for digital health, Madrid (Spain) for industrial processing, Louisville (United States) and Wevelgem (Belgium) for plant-based products, and Shanghai (China) for nutritional solutions tailored to China’s consumers.

The France site focuses on product development for Dairy, Plant-Based, and Waters categories, while the Netherlands facility specializes in addressing specific medical needs and supporting children's growth.

Each center is equipped with cutting-edge facilities for consumer and patient insights, large-scale fermentation and biotics prototyping, and a fully flexible pilot plant, empowering our Danoners to conduct world-class research at the highest standards.

Scientific publications

Our investment in cutting-edge research allows us to publish in high-impact journals, showcasing how our innovations benefit global and local health. By sharing our findings, we promote transparency and contribute to advancing nutritional science, with a focus on gut health and its impact from early life to aging.

Researching and adapting to local needs

In-depth knowledge of local nutritional situations

One of the key challenges for us at Danone is to create a broad portfolio of products that appeal to consumers worldwide, given that preferences, dietary habits and nutritional needs  differ greatly from country to country. That’s why we continuously gather, monitor and analyze data from scientific literature and dietary studies. Our Nutriplanet and Food Consumption Dashboards combine these data so that Danone subsidiaries can monitor nutritional gaps and tailor their product portfolios to meet consumer needs.
